ASKED QUESTIONS
FAQ’S
Why choose alternative pharmacy sourcing?
Alternative sourcing gives employers access to FDA-approved brand-name medications through domestic pharmacies, or clinically equivalent medications through licensed pharmacies in highly regulated international markets, at a fraction of the cost.
How disruptive is this, and what does the experience look like for participating employees?
Minimally. The program only affects the roughly 3% of employees who drive approximately 50% of prescription drug costs. The other 97% see no change whatsoever.
For participating employees, the experience is straightforward: free enrollment, same medication, same schedule, delivered to their door. A dedicated care coordinator is available if any questions come up. For groups that follow our standard outreach approach, average voluntary participation runs around 90%.
What data do you need from us, and how is it protected?
We need pharmacy claims data, typically pulled from your PBM or TPA, to identify savings opportunities, or a quick list for your top medications by spend for a snapshot look. All data is handled in full compliance with HIPAA. We do not sell, share, or use employee data for any purpose beyond administering the program. MedsDirectRx operates exclusively with fully licensed U.S. and international pharmacies in compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations.
Does this affect our current PBM, TPA, or employees' existing pharmacy benefits?
Complements rather than replaces your current pharmacy benefit. We layer on top of your current structure, handling the high-cost specialty medications that drive the majority of your pharmacy spend. While everything else continues unchanged.
What medications are eligible?
The program focuses on high-cost brand-name specialty and maintenance medications, typically the largest line items in your pharmacy claims. After reviewing your claims data, we identify the medications we can source at significant savings and show you the projected impact before you commit to anything.
Who supports employees throughout the process?
MedsDirectRx does. This does not fall on your HR team. Each participating employee is assigned a dedicated care coordinator who handles questions about prescriptions, shipment status, or anything else related to the program. Your benefits team stays informed at the employer level, but day-to-day employee support is entirely on us.
How does this affect our stop-loss coverage and rebate arrangements?
Both are real factors worth understanding upfront. Stop-loss thresholds and PBM rebate arrangements can influence the true net value of any alternative sourcing program, and we take that seriously. The more information you share with us, the more accurate our analysis can be. We factor in both stop-loss implications and rebate impact when completing our review, so what we show you is a true net-to-net comparison. No hidden catches after the fact.
How does MedsDirectRx pricing work?
We charge a flat fee, not a percentage of savings and not a per-member-per-month cost. Our margin is built into our medication pricing, and the only additional charge is a $99 shipping and handling fee per order. No hidden fees, no performance-based markups. What you see is what you pay.
How quickly should we expect to see results?
Most clients begin seeing early engagement and savings within the first 30 days. From there, results build over time as participation increases and optimization efforts continue.
What happens after the program is implemented?
After launch, the program shifts from implementation to ongoing optimization. We monitor performance, provide reporting, and continuously identify opportunities to expand impact. This phase is focused on refining the program and ensuring it delivers long-term value rather than functioning as a one-time rollout.
How do you ensure continued participation and growth after launch?
We actively work with you to grow and strengthen the program over time by:
- Re-engaging members who haven’t yet enrolled
- Identifying and targeting new eligible participants
- Providing outreach strategies to increase adoption and utilization
As your population evolves, we continuously add and support new members to ensure sustained results.
